China Electric Power Industry Annual Development Report 2022

On July 6, the China Electricity Council (CEC) released the Annual Development Report of China’s electric power Industry 2022 (REPORT 2022), releasing basic data of the electric power industry in 2021 to the whole society.

Report 2022 comprehensively, objectively and accurately reflects the development and reform status of China’s electric power industry based on statistics and survey data of the electric power industry and combined with precious materials provided by enterprises and relevant institutions. For in-depth and system, professional introduction to the power industry development in various professions, the itu organization compiled at the same time the power supply and demand analysis, international cooperation, power engineering construction quality, standardization, reliability, talents, in the field of cost management, electrification, digital and other professional series professional report, in order to meet the needs of various professional readers.

In 2021, the power industry will fully implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and all the plenary sessions of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, earnestly implement the deployment of the Central Economic Work Conference and the requirements of the National Development and Reform Work Conference, further promote the new strategy of energy security, and strive to overcome various difficulties and withstand various tests. In terms of energy security, we actively responded to the power rationing in summer, made every effort to prevent and control the security risks of tight thermal coal supply and high proportion of new energy connected to the grid, and made every effort to improve the power security and supply capacity to ensure the safe supply of electricity. In the development of green low carbon, firmly implement the party central committee under the State Council “double carbon” work deployment, adhere to seek improvement in stability, speed up the implementation of renewable energy alternative action, strictly implements national policies for energy conservation and emissions reduction requirements, the proportion of non-fossil energy installed to further improve, the national carbon emissions trading market the first successful MSC performance cycle, In the power market reform, we should perfect the multi-level unified power market system, standardize the unified trading rules and technical standards, speed up the construction of the national unified power market, and promote the formation of multiple competition in the power market pattern. Further progress has been made in investment and construction, scientific and technological innovation and international cooperation, providing reliable power for national economic development and epidemic prevention and control, and making comprehensive contributions to stabilizing expectations and ensuring energy security.

Chapter 14 report 2022, mainly reflects the power consumption and power production in 2021, electric power investment and construction, green electricity development, power development and management, safety and reliability, the electric power enterprise power international cooperation, standardization of electricity market reform and power, technology and digital, and so on and so forth, and in 2022 was put forward and the “difference” electric power development.

In terms of power consumption and power production, in 2021, the electricity consumption of the whole society in China will be 8,331.3 billion KWH, an increase of 10.4% and 7.1 percentage points over the previous year. The country’s per capita electricity consumption was 5,899 KWH/person, 568 KWH/person more than last year. By the end of 2021, China’s installed full-caliber power generation capacity was 2,377.77 million kw, up 7.8 percent over the previous year. In 2021, China’s full-caliber power generation will reach 8.3959 billion kilowatt-hours, up 10.1 percent or 6.0 percentage points over the previous year. By the end of 2021, the length of power transmission lines at 220 kv or above had reached 840,000 km, an increase of 3.8 percent over the previous year. The capacity of 220 kv and above substation equipment in China’s power grid was 4.9 billion kVA, an increase of 5.0% over the previous year. China’s inter-regional power transmission capacity reached 172.15 million kw. In 2021, 709.1 billion KWH of electricity will be delivered across the country, an increase of 9.5 percent over the previous year. The power grid’s ability to optimize the allocation of resources in a wider range has been significantly enhanced.

In 2021, the supply and demand situation of electric power in China is generally tight due to factors such as water shortage, tight supply of thermal coal and tight supply of natural gas in some periods, etc., and the power supply in some areas is tight in the beginning of the year, peak summer and September to October. In the process of dealing with the tight energy and electricity supply and ensuring the security of energy and electricity supply, electric power enterprises highlight the overall consciousness, actively implement the national deployment, establish emergency supply mechanism, and make an important contribution to ensure the security of electricity. Among them, power grid enterprises play the role of large power grid platform, coordinating supply and demand, sending and receiving, electric power balance and safe production, orderly “dual control” of power consumption and energy consumption, strictly restricting the “two high” enterprises. Power generation enterprises have strengthened their responsibility. In spite of the increasing losses of coal-fired power plants, they still do their best to ensure power and heat supply, and ensure that units are fully operational and equipment is stable and reliable.

In terms of electric power investment and construction, in 2021, the total investment of major electric power enterprises in China will be 1078.6 billion yuan, an increase of 5.9% over the previous year. China invested 587 billion yuan in power supply projects, an increase of 10.9% over the previous year. 491.6 billion yuan was invested in power grid projects nationwide, up 0.4% over the previous year. Installed power-generating capacity increased by 179.08 million kw, 12.36 million kw less than that of the previous year. The focus of power supply development continued to shift to new energy and adjustable power sources. The length of new ac power transmission lines of 110 kv or above was 51,984 km, down 9.2 percent from the previous year. The capacity of new substation equipment was 336.86 million kVA, an increase of 7.7% over the previous year. A total of 2,840 km of DC transmission lines and 32 million kw of converter capacity were put into operation, down 36.1% and 38.5% respectively over the previous year.

In terms of green power development, by the end of 2021, China’s installed power generation capacity of full-caliber non-fossil energy was 1.111845 million kw, accounting for 47.0% of the country’s total installed power generation capacity and an increase of 13.5% over the previous year. In 2021, non-fossil energy generation will reach 2,896.2 billion kilowatt hours, up 12.1 percent from the previous year. About 1.03 billion kilowatts of coal-fired power units have reached ultra-low emission limits, accounting for about 93.0 percent of China’s total installed coal-fired power capacity.
